STRAIN TRAITS
Details
Stardawg can trace its lineage right back to the West Coast. It’s been developed by breeding the original Chemdawg #4 with Tres Dawg (itself a Chemdawg and Afghani cross) to harness the best parts of both, and the results are fantastic. While its heritage might suggest indica characteristics, it’s much more sativa-leaning, producing a stimulating high that’s lively and euphoric.
Plants are fairly hardy and relatively easy to cultivate. And their speed of growth and decent yields make Stardawg a very rewarding strain to grow. Beautiful, trichome-encrusted buds with a unique (albeit acquired) taste round this strain off to make it something truly special.
Effects
With THC levels of 18-22%, Stardawg is delightfully potent. Its effects are typically sativa, great for elevating your mood and increasing energy levels. Its uplifting nature also stimulates the mind and can encourage deep thought. As such, this is a great strain for wake-and-baking, socializing, making mundane tasks more interesting, and even exercising. It’s also long-lasting, with a buzz that typically goes on for several hours. Consequently, Stardawg has developed a reputation as a superb party strain.
But its effects aren’t just cerebral. A physical, bodily buzz means it’s great for relieving pain and tension. Naturally, its mood- and energy-elevating properties are also superb for combatting conditions such as fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Plus it can effectively increase appetite and alleviate the symptoms of nausea. Stardawg’s range of therapeutic benefits, coupled with its ability not to impede day-to-day life, make it a highly effective medicinal strain.
Growing
Thanks to its Afghani heritage, Stardawg doesn’t grow too tall. Plants reach heights of around 100-180cm indoors, though can grow above two meters tall if grown outside. They’re fairly hardy, with high levels of resistance to pests and diseases, making this a relatively low-maintenance strain to grow. But be prepared to trim and top them if space is limited.
Plants yield around 400-500gr/m², which is incredibly impressive given their flowering times of just 7-8 weeks. Stardawg thrives when grown indoors but is also suitable for outdoor cultivation. If you do plant it outside, be ready to harvest in late September.
Appearance & Aroma
When you first see a Stardawg plant, your eyes are drawn straight to the flowers. Medium-sized buds are dense and almost velvety in texture, but you’d be forgiven for not noticing. They’re so thickly coated with white trichomes that it’s hard to see much else.
Beneath this crystalline sheen, buds are a deep green color, punctuated by dark, reddish-orange pistils. Lime-colored leaves are long and thin, though not as sleek as those of a pure sativa strain. In the growth phase, Stargdawg emits a dank, musky fragrance. This is accompanied by notes of diesel that grow more prominent as the plant matures.
MSNL Editors Verdict
This strain is one of our favorites. Few hybrids can elevate you like Stardawg; its energizing powers are so strong that some users liken it to a cup of coffee, and we’ve found it to be a sublime social strain. Its wide range of recreational and therapeutic uses are testimony to its uplifting nature, and it probably offers one of the most enjoyable smoking experiences around.
This strain is perfect for any lover of wake-and-bakes and will thrill fans of sticky buds. The fact that it grows well and produces big yields is just a bonus. Stardawg is a strain that has it all.
Tasting Notes
In terms of aroma, Stardawg is distinct from many strains in the Chemdawg family. While earthy, piney aromas are common among Chemdawg-descendant strains, Stardawg has a pungent chemical fragrance. This is accompanied by notes of skunk and citrus, and topped off by a sharp tang of diesel.
The citrus flavor grows stronger as you inhale. Pine, in a nod to Stardawg’s lineage, is also present in a smoke that’s more delicate than its aroma. Smoke feels thick in the mouth, the unmistakable mix of lemon and diesel coming to the fore as you exhale. Its scent might be an acquired taste. But its taste is simply delicious.
