STRAIN TRAITS
Details
Purple Widow was developed by breeding Purple Power with the legendary White Widow. The result is an exquisitely balanced hybrid that’s 55% indica and 45% sativa. The infamous White Widow came to prominence in the ‘90s, sweeping up multiple awards, including the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup. Those award-winning genetics are evident in a strain renowned for its versatile and well-balanced high.
By taking the best parts of White Widow and throwing in purple genetics, breeders have successfully created strong, high-yielding plants that produce an abundance of purple buds. Trademark fruity aromas and berry flavors put the finishing touch on this special strain.
Effects
With THC levels of around 19-22%, Purple Widow has retained all the potency of its illustrious parent. But thanks to its wonderfully balanced indica and stativa genetics, it’s able to produce a high that’s strong but never overpowering. Its effects are light and energizing. The cerebral buzz is uplifting and motivational, often inducing mild waves of euphoria. This is beautifully complemented by a relaxing bodily stone — Purple Widow’s slight indica leanings soothing the body and alleviating tension in tired limbs.
This strain is great for both daytime and evening use. Purple Widow’s ability to simultaneously focus the mind and induce comfort makes it a great accompaniment to socializing, creative pursuits, listening to music, or even getting through a to-do list. Therapeutically, it’s often used to alleviate the symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression. It can also treat migraines and inflammation, and help to induce appetite.
Growing
Purple Widow is fairly easy to grow. It can be cultivated both inside and out and flowers in an impressively rapid 8-10 weeks. Mid-sized plants reach heights of around 100-180cm and grow incredibly sturdy, producing an abundance of flowers. Its generous yields of 400-500g/m2 indoors are rare in plants that flower so quickly.
But Purple Widow is a crop that thrives outside. You can really enhance these yields by growing it outdoors. Harvest in late September and enjoy a plentiful crop. Naturally cooler nighttime temperatures will also enhance the purple coloration of your plants. But whether you plant it inside or out, this strain offers a remarkable combination of high yields, quick flowering times and relatively easy growing.
Appearance & Aroma
Purple Widow produces undeniably beautiful plants. Thanks to its purple genes, it often develops gorgeous violet and indigo hues as it grows. This purple coloration varies from delicately tinted sugar leaves to stunning purple buds with deeply dyed calyxes. The extent to which plants change color varies depending on the conditions, though you can enhance their coloration using a few simple techniques.
Large purple buds contrast beautifully against deep green fan leaves to create stunning plants. A heavy coating of trichomes and profusion of reddish-pink pistils combine to give the buds a gorgeous mulberry sheen. As plants start to grow, they produce a slightly sour aroma, eventually developing a slight licorice tang. However, this is soon overcome by the scent of citrus and berries as they mature into the flowering phase.
