STRAIN TRAITS
Ghost Train Haze Seeds Overview
The winner of the 2013 High Times Cannabis Cup Medical Sativa and runner-up in the 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup Sativa categories, this stunning cultivar is making a pretty wild resurgence in the past 12 months, and it's really no wonder why. And you know that little annual award that High Times gives to just a few strains per year strain - "Strongest Strains on Earth" - yeah, Ghost Train Haze Feminized took that one out in 2012.
Hailing from the first recreational legal state in the USA - Colorado - the genetic lineage is exactly what you would expect from such a highly awarded offering. A cross between Original Ghost OG and Neville's Wreck, this 75% Sativa / 25% Indica cultivar can be grown in a wide range of climates but does work best when in Mediterranean-like conditions. Thanks to her shorter-than-usual (for a Sativa) flowering period of 70 to 77 days, growers in temperate climates should be able to squeeze out two harvests per year if growing outdoors.
What are the effects of Ghost Train Haze weed?
This is a pretty special strain in terms of effects. It can be many this to many people, but it all comes down to the dosage.
At the lower to mid-end of the dosage spectrum, expect to find those mentally uplifting Sativa effects, with a boost to not only creativity and motivation but also focus and concentration. Waves of euphoria are also pretty common with Ghost Train Haze Feminized, making this a great all-day option for those looking for a bit of a pick-me-up.
At the higher end, the experience can be borderline psychedelic. Not in a scary or uncomfortable way, but rather a feeling of connection and deep understanding. The overall effects profile is definitely Sativa dominant, so if you're not into that kind of thing then it's best to keep the doses a little lower and slowly work your way up.
In terms of medicinal value, This strain is a great option for those among us looking to ease pain and inflammation and seems to work wonders for sufferers of arthritis. The euphoric undertones are perfect for people with depressive issues, and can really help brighten up your day - stress just seems to melt away with Ghost Train Haze in your bowl.
How to grow Ghost Train Haze seeds?
Although most agree that Ghost Train Haze Feminized is an 'intermediate' strain - due to her lanky size and propensity for mild nutrient sensitivity - it's still a great option for people just getting into growing cannabis. The shorter flowering period means that the majority of mistakes can be caught in time, and the buds will still come out looking quite nice.
Indoors, Ghost Train Haze does well with both hydroponics and soil-based growing, although if you're just starting out then it's best to go with the latter. As for light intensity, both HID and LED setups will do the job, but as of a few years back there is really no competition for a high-quality LED panel, but you do get what you pay for - so invest in a good quality setup, or save until you can.
This strain is particularly suited to slightly warmer outdoor conditions, so people living in climates that stay relatively mild throughout the summer and autumn months should be able to get a great yield. We've seen reports of up to 700g/m2 outdoors, which is an absolutely ridiculous amount of bud.
Just like most Sativa dominant strains, she likes to grow tall when left unchecked/ We recommend topping this strain 2 to 3 times, and setting up a ScrOG net so you can better control the canopy. This will allow for a better spread of nutrients and growth hormones to all the budding sites, and boost light penetration as well as canopy air exchange. All of this should equal bigger harvests with higher-quality nugs.
Ghost Train Haze strain appearance and aroma
New school strains seem to all fit into this one, neat package when it comes to the aroma - fruity, sweet, with a hint of diesel. There's nothing hugely wrong with this, but it is nice to see a strain with a bit of a different terpene profile.
Ghost Train Haze Feminized stands out with a unique scent that blends together sweet and sour fruit tones, citrus rinds, a subtle pine aroma, and even a hint of cinnamon when broken apart. It's really quite impressive in its complexity.
The buds are bright green, covered in stand-out orange pistils, and are totally covered in frost as all hell trichomes when grown in good climatic conditions. You are not going to get any red or purple tones, but who needs them when the buds look this damn good.
MSNL Editors Verdict
I remember getting my grubby little stoner paws on this strain when I was living in Amsterdam, back in the summer of 2013. It had just won the High Times Cannabis Cup Medical Sativa top prize, and there was nothing more that my friends and I wanted at the time than to really blast off. And blast off we did.
So, when I saw it pop back up on our stock list a year or so ago, I couldn't wait to give it another try. Ghost Train Haze has truly stood the test of time, and I can't see a day in the near future when I don't have a few of these wonderful plants in my grow area.
