STRAIN TRAITS
Cookies and Cream Seeds Overview
Hitting the shelves worldwide back in early 2014, Cookies & Cream seeds are a cross between two of the most popular cannabis strains in the world, the ever-stanky Starfighter (a 60/40 Indica-dominant hybrid), and a strain that every upstanding stoner should be more than familiar with - Girl Scout Cookies.
The result was, as we mentioned above, a true instant classic. This was a time when hybrids were really coming to the forefront of cannabis culture, and being one of the first truly balanced strains made this cultivar a highly sought-after prize. So much so, that for the first two or so years after her release (and especially after taking out the top gong at the High Times Cup), it was close on impossible to find both seeds and bud outside of a small handful of markets.
Luckily for us all, our breeders had the foresight to jump on this one right away and since the scene now has a bunch of nicely balanced options, you can grab a batch anytime you like. And grab you should! Cookies & Cream is a delight to grow, trim, cure, and smoke.
Topping out at around 24% THC (when grown in perfect conditions) and backed up with 2 or so percent of the wonder cannabinoid CBD, this is a strain that offers truly enjoyable effects while remaining more than manageable. It's not quite as potent as its parent strains, but the potency is nowhere near the be-all and end-all when it comes to ranking a strain. And a 24% percent, she's anything but a slouch.
What are the effects of Cookies and Cream weed?
If you are the type of ganga guru who enjoys a strain that will give you that energizing, uplifting, creative boost then Cookies & Cream will be right up your street. Starting out with that classic Sativa boost, this strain is great for social situations and for anyone looking to get stuff done. That said, after about 30 minutes or so it does start to take a more Indica-like turn, and as that body stone starts to take effect you'll feel your stress, anxiety and any minor aches and pains slowly start to drift away.
In terms of medicinal applications, this one is extremely relieving for both the body and mind. Sufferers of depressive issues and people who battle muscle spasms will find a huge amount of solace at low dosages, and insomniacs will find a slightly higher dose extremely helpful.
How to grow Cookies and Cream seeds?
If there is an easier-to-grow strain out there, we haven't found it yet.
While Cookies & Cream weed does enjoy a slightly warmer climate than many strains, and does super well in sub-tropical environments, she also prospers in just about any grow room or outdoor garden.
Indoor, she'll take around 8-10 weeks to reach full maturity once flowering has gotten into full swing, and will usually produce 400-500gr/m² - but this can be easily boosted with some simple stress training techniques.
We suggest topping her at least twice, running a light super-cropping regime on the stronger branches, and setting up a ScrOG net for her to grow into. While she is a pure hybrid, most phenotypes are on the bushier side - so a ScrOG net is your best friend here. By breaking the Apical dominance with topping and the net, you are able to really open the canopy up and allow for much better overall light penetration and canopy air exchange.
Cookies and Cream strain appearance and aroma
The moniker may give away a few of her secrets here. Aptly named after one of the most enduring ice cream flavors of all time, the nose on this one is equal parts creamy and sweet, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. There's a hint of sourness in the background that counterbalances everything, with most phenos also bringing that vanilla vibe.
But that's not where the ice cream similarities finish. This strain is about as frosty as they come, and an extract maker's dream. Almost overflowing with a thick, dense trichome coverage that leaves her buds with a fluffy white coat, she's the real deal. The buds are medium-sized, and once properly cured the dark-green nuggets have almost gold-like specks of pistils scattered throughout.
MSNL Editors Verdict
I still remember the first time we scored a few chunks of Cookies & Cream. The year was 2014, and while at the High Times Cup with the rest of the MSNL team, we stumbled across this strain. It was love at first sight, and we've been producing it ever since.
No one likes a balanced hybrid more than I do, but this one really stands out from the sea of options. Super easy to grow, and an almost over-producer in a wide range of climatic conditions, she will quickly become more precious than your firstborn. She has that classic OG Kush pungency but with a sweet, creamy twist. Delightful, no other word for it.
What does Cookies and Cream taste like?
This one is creamy, but also so much more. The darkness of Starfighter is there in the background, but the flavor on the exhale sticks around for longer than expected. The aftertaste is a wonderful ride, with the more earthy, woody, piney notes lingering like they should while never overtaking the rest of the pallet.
A true best-of-both-worlds situation here, and Cookies & Cream only gets more interesting the longer you leave it to cure. A minimum curing period of 4 weeks is needed to really see her start to shine, but if you have the patience to wait upwards of 6 months then you are going to be one happy camper.
